    What Can You Expect...

We first begin by building a relationship with a new puppy, or securing a relationship with an older dog. Trust must be developed in order for training to be successful. Boundaries are established, and you and your dog learn to work as a team. Beginning training starts by teaching your pet what is expected of him or her. We first begin by training you to keep your dog focused on you, his handler. Without your dog’s attention, training is virtually impossible. You will be taught how and when to give the proper corrections. Improper or over-correcting will break the spirit of any dog. Your training involves a trainer training YOU to train your dog. Emphasis is put on good manners. Results: A better relationship between you and your best friend.

    Programs
All programs begin with a half-hour evaluation. This is a FREE service that we require prior to signing up for any program. It gives us the opportunity to meet with you and your pet to help determine which program best suits your needs. It gives you a chance to see the facility and meet your trainers. This is the time to discuss any issues thou might be having with your dog. All evaluations are by appointment only. No WALK-INS will be accepted.

In order to give a dog a fair chance at learning, he must first be allowed to learn in a distraction-free environment. Any dog that has had no previous training cannot be expected to learn in a group situation with fifteen other dogs in the room. For this reason, all beginner programs are strictly private lessons. Once your dog has an understanding of the commands, we can proof your dog by having him or her work with another dog in the room. This program is offered after a series of private lessons has been successfully completed.

New Student Packages: These are private lessons that cover beginning training. These packages provide you with the basic foundation you need to train your dog. We offer six, eight, and ten week programs. Prices vary according to the program you sign up for. Please call for more details.

With any of the programs that you choose, you are required to attend a minimum of once a week in order to see results. Homework is given and you are encouraged to work with your dog outside of class. Depending on the attention span of your dog, most lessons run 30-35 minutes.

    Intensive Training:
Intensive Training I: This is a three-month program that requires you and your dog to attend twice a week. It provides you and your pet with not only more extensive training, but more importantly, it allows more time for you and your dog to learn.
Intensive Training II: This is a four-month program that offers you the opportunity to have basic training put on your dog by an experienced instructor. A trainer will provide the first three months of training. After this, the fourth month is spent teaching you to work with your dog. Although we are firm believers that it is best that we train you to train your dog, special situations such as physical limitations make it difficult for some handlers, which is why this program is offered. This program is offered only upon the recommendation of your instructor during your evaluation.

Continuing Education: This is offered to students that have completed at least an Eight-Week Beginner Program and want to continue on. No minimum number of lessons is required: these private lessons can be used to refine what you have learned in your beginner program, or to continue on to more advanced work. All students must meet the requirements necessary to go into this program. An evaluation will be done to determine if you and your pet are eligible.

Two for One: This program is offered to students that have completed at least an Eight-Week Program. It is for those students that are ready to proof their dogs with another dog in the room. This is a six-week program. You will be signed up with another student that meets the same requirements. This program will be available after an evaluation by your instructor to determine if you and your dog are ready.

Canine Good Citizen: This is a ten-week program that prepares you and your pet for the CGC test. This program is sanctioned by the American Kennel Club and is offered for the purpose of showing that your pet has the proper social skills to be a welcomed member of the community. This is not only a fun program, but also a useful one. The classes are run as group classes. The program is offered twice a year at the Greater Coastal Canine Academy Training Center. For more information and cost, please speak to a GCCA staff member.

We hope that your experience with the Greater Coastal canine Center will not only prove to be fun, but also educational. Our experienced staff works hard to provide you with the best possible training you will get. All training is motivational, meaning that we use only positive reinforcement. Food is used during your training to maintain your dog’s motivation to want to work. Any form of abuse, such as hitting or kicking your dog is strictly prohibited. If such actions are taken, you will be asked to leave and no refund will be given. The Greater Coastal Canine Academy retains the right to refuse service to any dog or handler that does not comply with the Terms and Agreements provided by the Academy.

Please read the Terms and Agreements provided on this website.

All lessons are scheduled by appointment only. We offer day, weekend, and early evening classes. Your call will be returned within twenty-four hours.
